State Rep. Francis Thompson, D-Delhi, has been named chairman of the House Agriculture Committee.
" I am pleased to be appointed chairman of the Agricultural Committee and plan to work with the Foster Administration and committee members to ensure the continued development and protection of our state's most valuable industry," Rep. Thompson said. "The agriculture and forestry industry is extremely important to our constituents and provides many jobs for our citizens," he said. "Further, the committee has jurisdiction over rural development, which is essential to our area," he said.
All agricultural-related matters, including forestry, farming, economics, research, engineering, production, promotion and marketing, dairy, human nutrition, livestock inspection and soils are among those referred to the committee.
Thompson has served House District 19 since 1975 and is married to the former Marilyn Bryant. They have three children.
